Like her namesake, Caramel is super sweet but can take a bit to of time to get to the good part! Caramel is sooo scared in the loud kennel environment, but shows her soft and gentle side once she gets more comfortable. Caramel was found as a stray and is now sitting at ACCT Philly, where you can meet her any day from 10am-6pm!
Behavior:
Per Volunteer 10/5/24:
When I first approached her kennel and started opening the door, she went to the other side of the kennel and was definitely scared. I dropped some treats and she came forward slowly and gave me some tail wags as she picked the treats up. On the first try I looped her with the leash easily and she walks nicely on leash! Pretty shut down, she took some pets but never really loosened up much. I sat on a bench and gave her space and she came and sat next to me but her tail remained tucked and she was shaking. She is interested in treats but didn't eat any of them straight from my hand- she preferred to take them from the ground! She loosened up by the time we got to the volunteer photoshoot and she easily allowed me to put a little costume headpiece on her. She took pets from ppl in the photoshoot but remained shaking and tail tucked. Sweet girl just very scared! No issues returning to kennel
Per Staff 10/4/24:
BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Caramel
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Caramel retreated when she saw the handler ap;porach with wide scared eyes and ears pinned back. The handler tried to coax her with a baby voice but she didn't move and needed to be leashed father away from ears to snout. Once secured she came right out.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally
HANDLING:
Once in the eval room Caramel was fearful with a tucked tail, wide eyes and a very stiff and slow moving body. She did some sniffs of the handler and toys but moved away with her body low to the ground. She tolerated some pets and tensed up but slowly came up and laid a little closer to the handler. Caramel wants to relax and solicit for pets but is so scared. When larger items like hands, bigger treats, and toys come near her face she looks away, does some lip licks and tries to cower. When the handler moved around the room she hesitantly followed behind her with her body continuing to be lowered but once the handler turned around to her she cowered away. Everytime the handler moved away from her to a different area of the room she would follow her to that area and lay at a distance or sit near her.
