Meet Yam, a sweet puppy with a heart full of love and a spirit of curiosity. She's a mellow little 15-pound lady, always up for a cuddle and a nap. She likes sitting on lap, being petted, and never being by herself. But don't be fooled by her calm demeanor, she's also playful and energetic, ready to explore new toys and games. Yam does have a habit of chewing, so be ready with plenty of toys! Likes most puppies, she needs to be taught about house training and leash walking. Yam is a bit shy, especially around other dogs, but she's extremely gentle, tolerant, and submissive. She is also afraid at first and she might hide from them. She's got a playful streak with children, making her a perfect addition to a family. She is easygoing and friendly with young kids. Despite her shyness, Yam is a needy girl, always eager for your attention and affection. She's looking for a forever home where she can feel safe and loved. Pet Adoption Fees
CAP adoption fees include a variety of services - age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm, and feline leukemia tests, spaying/neutering, deworming treatment, microchipping to name a few - the total value of which exceeds $450. These minimal adoption fees cover only part of each animal's stay at our shelter - please help us keep adoption fees low while maintaining the high quality of care for the animals in our charge by donating and/or volunteering.

A second dog or puppy, adopted within 30 days of the first adoption receives a $20 discount.

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
