My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there, my name is Pixie and I'm a playful and charming 8-month-old Terrier mix puppy. I may be small, weighing in at just 26 lbs, but I have a big personality and an even bigger heart.

My foster family says I am an absolute sweetheart and I make a fantastic best friend. I am always down for an adventure and love to explore the world around me. My energy knows no bounds, so I would do best in a home with an active family who can keep up with me and take me on plenty of walks and hikes.

I have been described as absolutely gorgeous, with my pretty coat and adorable face. I am also quite the social butterfly and love being around people. I am an extrovert through and through and thrive on human companionship and affection.

I may be a bit of a busy bee, but I have a gentle and loving nature. I am incredibly friendly and always curious to meet new people and animals. I get along well with other dogs and even cats. Kids are also a joy to be around, as I love to play and snuggle with them.

My quirky personality will surely bring a smile to your face. I am a people pleaser and will do anything to make my humans happy. I am affectionate and love to give kisses and cuddles, but I also have a playful side and will keep you entertained with my silly antics.

If you think I could be the perfect addition to your family, please come and meet me. I can't wait to shower my future family with love and affection. So what do you say? Will you make me a part of your forever home? I promise to be the best companion you could ever ask for.

If you are interested in me, please send an email to SCP! Applications can be found on our website at secondchancepets.org under the "Forms" tab. Please complete and return to us for review!

Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home. The adoption fee for a dog is $190 (or $245 for puppies). All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas.

All dogs typically show on Saturdays at the Petco in Clear Lake as well. 2410 Bay Area Blvd near Space Center. Adoptions are held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clear Lake Petco, 2410 Bay Area Boulevard. Since all our dogs are in foster homes, an individual dog may not be at our weekly Adoption Event due to conflict with a foster's schedule. If you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please send an email to scpdogworld@gmail.com so that the Dog Coordinator can let you know if the dog will be at the Saturday Adoption Event at Petco. If you just want to meet some great dogs looking for their forever home, please come visit with us on Saturday!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters must complete an application and SCP volunteers can help adopters identify cats and dogs that will fit best in their homes. SCP adoption counselors review the applications, conduct in-person interviews and discuss pet care responsibilities with potential adopters. SCP checks applicants' vet references and may conduct a home visit at its discretion. So that the best interests of the pet are served, SCP reserves the right to refuse an adoption to anyone. The adoption fee starts at $110 for cats ($175 for two cats), $190 for dogs and $245 for puppies.

SCP tries to ensure that all pets are healthy at the time of adoption. All are examined by veterinarians when they enter the program. All are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, tested/treated for parasites and disease (such as heartworms, fleas, feline leukemia and FIV) as needed. Cats are vaccinated for FVRCP and FeLV. Dogs are vaccinated for DHLPP and Corona virus. Animals are kept in foster homes to minimize exposure to disease and to help them be well-adjusted. It is the policy of SCP that no cat or dog may be sent to a permanent home before it is fully vetted, including spay or neuter. All of our rescued animals are microchipped.

Go meet their pets

SCP does not have a shelter or an office location. The rescued pets, volunteers, fosters, and adopters who comprise SCP come from all over the Galveston Bay area (mainly north Galveston and south Harris counties). Our adoptable animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent home is found.

SCP has cats and dogs available for adoption every Saturday (cats 10:30-2:30 and dogs 11:00-2:00) at the Petco store in Clear Lake (2410 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston, TX 77058 - corner of Bay Area and Space Center). A few cats may also be seen during the week in the condos at this Petco location.
