Mama Callie If anyone tells you that being a stray cat with seven newborn kittens is easy, please tell them to get a life! When I was found on Strawtown Avenue with my babies, I was trying to keep them safe, fed, and warm. Even though I am a grown-up 3.5-year-old Tortoiseshell/ Calico cat, I was worried and not feeling well. I had an upper respiratory infection and a severe flea infestation. Some TLC and medication helped me recover. The tricky thing about being a stray animal is the whole process of being taken care of can be frightening. Even though I know the people here are giving me everything I need to find a forever home, it causes me some stress. Whenever the interviewer lady (IL) came to talk with me, I would be sitting in my litter box. In cat language, this behavior indicates I'm feeling nervous and stressed. I'm just not accustomed to having a bed, food, and attention on a regular basis. Therefore, if you would like to adopt me (and I hope you do!), please give me plenty of time to get used to your home and the people in it. It will probably take more time than you might think for me to build my confidence and show you my true personality. Paws crossed, we will have a wonderful life together! 10-14-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
