We would love to welcome George into the Fetch + Releash family on November 17th, 2024 (subject to change). In order for George to come into our care, we need a committed family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you'll be expected to take him home on his arrival date. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until his new forever family can be found.
Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog's nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions.
Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet in Mississauga, ON for further vet care.
During your foster-to-adopt trial, you'll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.

George / Male / 1.5 years / 87lbs / Lab Mix / From Tennessee
Introducing George the charmer. This shy but affectionate Lab mix is eager to share the simple joys of life with his new family. George's carefree and playful personality makes him an ideal addition to any family, ready to fill your home with laughter and love.
George is ready to learn, however he has no formal training and will thrive with ongoing guidance and gentle reminders about his size. He can jump up when excited so we suggest a home with older kids (10+) due to his size. He enjoys playtime with other dogs but recently lost his pen mate as they were lucky to get their freedom ride to Canada in July. It is not necessary for George to land in a home with another dog as he is known to happily hang out on his own. Opportunities to meet and make other canine friends will help him stay well socialized. For George to reach his full potential, his future family is encouraged to engage in training sessions, establish routines and set boundaries in order to build his confidence.
George has only known a life outdoors so his new family will also need to be committed to working with him on all the basics - everything from crate training, potty training, master walking on leash and basic commands like sit, down, stay, etc. His family will need to be patient and provide him time to decompress and adjust to his new life of living indoors as it will be a big change. His family should expect to spend time offering several opportunities per day to walk, play, and provide enrichment as George learns how to live the good life. He may be shy at first so slow exposure to new experiences and people will allow him to flourish at his own pace. A home with a yard would be best as he is so used to having space to run and play.
During a brief cat test we believe George could adapt to a life alongside a dog-savvy feline friend, ensuring proper introductions, boundaries and supervision until trust has been built. He was more afraid of the cat than the cat was afraid of him. With confidence building we could see him and a feline friend becoming great buddies one day.
Play-based training helps build strong bonds. By engaging in interactive and fun activities, you not only nurture his intelligence but also build a connection that will last a lifetime. George is not just looking for a home; he's seeking a loving family committed to helping him thrive.

If we think your application has potential to be a good fit, a Fetch + Releash volunteer will contact you to set up a time to speak over the phone and conduct the home visit. In addition to the phone interview and home visit, we also require personal, veterinarian, and landlord reference if applicable.
After the phone interview, home visit & reference check, you will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog.
After the meet and greet, the adoption committee will then review your completed application and make a final decision.

Our foster dogs come from a variety of different backgrounds such as shelters, strays and surrendered pets, both locally and abroad.
