My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Douglas, affectionately known as Uncle Doug, is a happy-go-lucky Weimaraner with a silver coat that shimmers in the sunlight. At 6 years old, this neutered male is a bundle of joy and a true entertainer at heart. Personality and Traits:Douglas is a social butterfly who loves to greet everyone with his signature woo woo welcome. He has a playful spirit and enjoys rummaging through his toy box picking out his favorites, like his absolute fave wooden chew block (a must have for him), often serenading his family with his Bing Crosby-like croons. His tail is always wagging, even in his sleep, showing his constant joy and affection. Dog and Kid Friendly:Douglas is friendly with other dogs, especially larger ones, though he has lived harmoniously with a smaller dog. He is a bit of a "pied Piper" to the younger dogs and they love following their"uncle Douggie" around the yard on his sniffing strolls! He is also good with kids, particularly those over 10 years old, making him a wonderful family companion fora family with an olderset of children. Due to hissize he can be a bit overwhelming forlittle ones. People Friendly:While Douglas loves people, he can be a bit barky until he gets to exchange greetings. Once he knows you, hes all about cuddles and companionship. Living Habits:Douglas is a free-roamer who is perfectly content exploring the house. He can be crated for short periods but prefers lounging on the couch or a doggie bed. Hes known to pilfer a thing or two for his own amusement, often taking his treasures out the dog door. Grooming Needs:As a long-haired Weimaraner, Douglas requires occasional grooming to keep his handsome appearance. Regular trims of his toe tufts and coat ensure he looks his dapper best. Energy Level:Douglas has a lower to moderate energy level. He enjoys leisurely strolls and the occasional zoomie but is generally a laid-back fellow. A solid 5-6 ft fenced yard is ideal for him, though he might adapt to an e-collar fence with proper training. Environment:Douglas thrives in a rural setting where he can watch deer, bunnies, and ducks. Hes also vigilant about package deliveries, ensuring no mishandling occurs. Car Rides and Crates:Douglas enjoys car rides and is happy to accompany you on your travels. While he can be crated for short periods, he much prefers the freedom to roam the house and serenade you upon your return. If youre looking for a handsome, melodic, and pure-hearted companion to enrich your life, Douglas is sure to win your heart with his charm and warmth

Go meet their pets

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is not a physical facility shelter. We are a group of volunteers that live throughout the Great Lakes Region; Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario. The weims in our care and re-homing program reside with our foster families until they are adopted. Once you complete the adoption process, you are more than welcome to visit the dogs that are suitable for you, your family and lifestyle at their foster home!

More about this rescue

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue & placement of Weims in the Great Lakes region; including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Ontario.

Dogs that enter our rescue are placed into our foster care network which provides a stable, loving family environment. Each dog's medical & emotional needs are provided for as they wait for their new "forever" home. We believe that every dog deserves a chance to enjoy a good life. We adhere to a "no-kill" philosophy.

GLWR was created in an effort to support & provide for the rescue, recovery, care, rehabilitation & re-homing of Weims in need across the Great Lakes region. No one individual is GLWR...we came together to form a collective & collaborative organization with our sole purpose being to assist Weims in need. We work with the various networks of shelters and containment facilities in several states as well as accept owner relinquishments. We exist solely on the generous donations of those who love these majestic "gray ghosts" as much as we do & the fund raising efforts of our very talented and energetic group. All funds received are used to support the vet care & other essential expenses necessary in the daily care of the dogs.

We believe in doing everything possible to help a dog make the transition to their forever home. We are here for the Weims & the Weims alone...our reward lies not in the accolades of being "rescuers" but in the gratitude we see in the bright, loving eyes of one of our Weims as they move onto their forever home... dogs that were once sad, dejected, & without hope that now have a chance to experience the love and warmth of a family that will truly love and care for them.
