CLOVIS NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Clovis Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd mix
Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of November 2024 SEX: Male
Approximate Weight: 70 lbs
Gets Along With: Clovis loves other dogs! Clovis has lived with two cats before. We have not seen Clovis with children yet but he can be tested if you have them!
Currently Living at: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC after recovering from heartworm treatment
Special adoption considerations: Clovis is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
About Clovis: This handsome boy arrived into our care in the summer of 2022 and was adopted out to a loving home. For more than two years, he enjoyed life with his humans and two cats (with whom he peacefully co-existed). Through no fault of his own, he came back to us and now needs a new home after completing heartworm treatment.
His previous humans say he's a sweet dog who responds well to commands. He enjoys his sniffy walks and romps in parks. In the home, he's an awesome, chill buddy - his humans did not normally crate him but on the few occasions he needed to be crated, he simply slept. Generally, he loves quieter environments - and like many of us, would choose a nice leafy suburb and a hike through the woods over a high rise in the middle of the city.
Clovis also loves other dogs! He does very well with them and might do best in a home with another friendly dog.
Clovis wants nothing more than to be once again loved and under his own roof. What do you say? Can you see yourself gazing back at this sweet boy, wondering what breed lurks in his ancet gave him his blue eye? Is he the companion you've been seeking?
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has returned to the DC area after heartworm treatment and spent some time with his foster.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
