My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SG Lady Luck, R 86C, L 69125

Hi, my name is Shy. I love my daily walks! I am so excited to see what is out there, there are dogs of all sizes, not just greyhounds! Who knew? I am so happy to meet new people, and love it when they pet me and tell me I'm sweet and not shy at all. I have a lot of curiosity so my foster mom hides the bread and any other food I might get into while she is gone. I am very friendly with people and dogs. New dogs are particularly interesting, I really need to get up in their business and check to make sure they are actually a dog! But I don't like it if they crowd me, a girl needs her space. I get along with people, my foster brother greyhound and the neighborhood dogs that I now know. My foster mom watches me with new dogs, just to be sure we respect each other and nobody gets nippy
I would rather not be kenneled a lot. I am okay with night time kenneling but during the day I love the anti-anxiety bed and some toys around so I prefer to be baby gated in the back part of the house. I often like to go out for some sun in the afternoon or to go potty if someone is around to let me out. If not, so far I can hold it for a while. I need training on walks, I am a fast walker with lots to explore and smell. I want to pee on as many things in my neighborhood as possible! My foster mom says I'm a sweet girl that spends most of her day napping but really loves a long walk twice a day. She is generally not super interested in her food in the morning but eventually eats it. Always eats her evening meal much quicker. When she whines it almost always means, let me outside I gotta pee! Gets slightly nervous if one person leaves the house but settles down within 2-3 minutes.

Personality Traits:   social, cuddly, playful, energetic, goofy

More about this rescue

We are the Minnesota chapter of Greyhound Pets of America.

Greyhound Pets of America is a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation founded in 1987 for the purpose of finding homes for ex-racing greyhounds and educating the public on the suitability and availability of greyhounds as pets.

All of our greyhounds go into foster homes where they can acclimate to their new lives as retired racers. We also get a better idea of their personalities so we can make the best possible match with their new family.

We have found great success in matching the personalities of the greyhounds with the personalities of the new families. We test all our greyhounds to see if they can live with small animals and many of our greyhounds go on to live in families with other pets, including cats.

Greyhound Pets of America - Minnesota is run entirely by volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to the cause of rescuing retired greyhounds. GPA-MN and our volunteers are committed to making sure all our greyhounds have a happy, safe and long life while in our care as well as after they find their forever homes.

If you're planning to get a dog, we hope you will consider adopting one of our retired racers!
