My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This guy makes quite a splash wherever he goes! Literally! He loves being in water and nothing makes him happier than being with one or all of his people to play fetch in the water! Nacho is devoted to his family but friendly to everyone. He is the kind of dog you can take anywhere and he will be attentive, social, and well-behaved. He also has a terrific smile that makes you happy just looking at it and his sweetness shines through it.

Nacho is great with almost all dogs; the one dog he has conflicts with is the foster brother that is too much like him and their herding dog behaviors sometimes clash.

We are looking for a family for Nacho that fairly regularly will go on trails off leash with him as that is his other passion and he won’t be truly happy without it.

Nacho is a true border collie and herding type dog in personality. He came from a working ranch in eastern Idaho and went through a couple of pet homes before coming to us. The first family found that he got stressed by their new baby and rehomed him. Toddlers are sometimes too much as well though he does okay when meeting them occasionally if he has the option of moving away when he feels nervous about them.

In the second home he fathered puppies on the female in the home and the owner got overwhelmed and placed him with us. A little later we took half the litter after they were okay to leave their mom. Nacho helped raise them and is always very tolerant with them.

Nacho is an active boy but not hyper or always moving, and he can settle down just fine as long as he is allowed to stay near one of his family. He definitely sees it as his job to keep an eye on his flock and gets concerned if he can’t keep track of its members, if not by observing them then at least know where they went.

Nacho has had basic training and more. He is super talented when it comes to training and would make a wonderful sports dog as he is both very attentive, motivated, and intelligent. He also has a great start for disk/frisbee and loves it.

He rides well in a car and enjoys it. He walks pretty well on a leash. He is not a fan of crates but will accept them. He does not like you to leave him home alone but will again put up with it okay. He would love to be in a home where one or more works from home at least part time but can adjust to full time if you make up for it at other times.

Nacho is obsessed with the squirrels in the yard and not in a healthy way; this becomes worse when he is bored. He is pretty easy to call off them but goes right back if not given something else to do. Not having a black walnut tree at his foster home and a family of squirrels picking nuts all the time would probably help!

He sheds a lot during shedding season but is very easy to handle for grooming and nail trimming. His coat is beautiful, soft, and an easy-to-maintain dry-and-shake variety.

Nacho turns 3 on October 9.

Go meet their pets

Since we are a foster based rescue and don’t have a shelter all meet and greets must be scheduled and walk-ins are not an option. We will travel throughout the Treasure Valley and surrounding areas/states if that means the dog will find their forever home! When we host adoption/community events we will always post them on our Facebook Page Northern Star Dog Rescue.

More about this rescue

We are Northern Star Dog Rescue, a completely foster based non profit dog rescue! We specifically pull all of our dogs from the euthanasia list (most are there due to no fault of their own) and dogs that are homeless or in bad housing conditions. We take them in and place them in foster homes until we can find them their forever homes! We do what we do because our team has a STRONG love for animals especially those that are in dire situations.
