My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bear is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match!

Bear and his four siblings were born in rural Texas and raised mostly outside on the streets, with only each other and their mom for company. Mom was a gorgeous husky who sadly became very sick, which was discovered after a good samaritan trapped mom and her pups to get them out of the elements. The vet discovered that mom had cancer, and a local rescuer reached out to us about helping her pups. We knew when we committed to taking them in that they had been through a lot and were pretty under-socialized with people. We are so proud of how far they have all come in less than two weeks!

Each pup wound up in a loving foster home! Bear lives with a couple and their two dogs. Even the more particular of the dogs likes Bear, as he is not an overwhelming puppy he is rather shy and polite with other dogs! Bear will bark when greeting new people but eventually gets comfortable and settles. He recently had a two day sleepover with a couple and their three dogs. At first, he was nervous when his foster mom left but in no time he was playing with the three dogs in the yard! "He's been so easy to have a have around" writes his sleepover host!
Bear would do best in a quiet area and with an adopter who understands he will need continued training and socialization to grow into a confident young man!

Bear's foster mom writes, "Bear is a shy but very loving boy. He's come a long way in just a week in my home. He's become more confident and playful with my dogs. He can be cuddly but also likes his own space where he can take a nap or chew on a bone. He is a smart and sensitive puppy who is learning how to dog. Bear is searching for a forever home filled with love!

Bear's adoption fee is $400. This animal is neutered and up to date on core vaccines appropriate for their age. They will need a Heartworm test between 6-7 months of age.
