My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Skippy 6991
Skippy’s bright, intelligent, “just want to be your man” expression tells it all. The photographer knew that Skippy was a sensitive, personable black lab, but when they arrived together at the Humane Society bark park, all the aspirations disappeared in a blink of an eye and the wag of a tail. Skippy became a transcendental spirit that literally blew away the human’s elevated expectations with a movie script that became a producer’s delight.

Skippy was awarded his name in respect of his resilience to an injury that happened when Skippy was still a pup 4 short years ago. He will always move with a slight skip in his step that is more of a dance than it is an impediment. A blue Kong bone-like toy became an attraction to Skippy and an inspiration to the human as he witnessed the extent of Skippy’s touch of life on this planet. Skippy went scuba over 25 times in search of submerged hot dog treats continually replaced by an awe-struck human who couldn’t believe the concentration and strength of character displayed by the canine. The treats had disappeared only to be replaced by the blue toy and the fun really began. Skippy used some amazing underwater dog-paddling techniques to maneuver the toy into his mouth where it was accepted by the human who quickly tossed it again into the doggy pond. After repeated retrievals, the human finally became humane and accepted the true gift as Skippy snuggled up, leaned on his leg, and shared the closeness of a touch from a canine with a deeper understanding of real life than most humans will ever recognize.

Skippy is in waiting expectantly for a home with a loving, knowing, and giving human who in return will share the companionship of a lifetime.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fee is $70 which covers all the basic shots and worming medications appropriate for the age of the animal as well as the required spaying or neutering. If the animal is too young to be neutered, a voucher is presented to the adopter to cover the process at a participating vet. Rabies shots are not included. We have an application process in which we ask basic questions to insure that you and the chosen pet are a good match for each other. We do require a vet reference. If you have been arrested and convicted of animal abuse or neglect, you will not be considered for adoption. If you do not own your home, a letter from the landlord giving permission to have a pet is required. Local ordinances regarding maximum numbers of pets shall be observed. All other household pets must be spayed or neutered. All pets are adopted "as is." Should the pet not work out after you take it home, we ask that you return the animal to us for re-homing. We want each animal to find a loving forever home and reserve the right to refuse any application should the individual needs of the chosen animal not be in that dog's best interest. Contact our office for inquiries and applications.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society for Animals is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides for the welfare of dogs and cats in Benton County through shelter and adoption services, spaying and neutering vouchers, and humane education.
The Humane Society for Animals has held over 90,000 animals since it originally opened in 1972. Our facility at 1st and Nursery Rd. was built in 1980 and continuously houses a total of around 85 dogs and 20 cats. Most of our cats and dogs are strays that have been dumped or abandoned. Others come from local animal control agencies and from people who can no longer care for them, that live in the county. We offer the public numerous opportunities either to donate or get involved. Please contact us to see how you can help.
