My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have had Elvis and Priscilla since they were 3 weeks old. Elvis came to me with a terrible eye infection. He needed his eyes removed, but at only 3/4 of a pound, he was too young and too little for that kind of operation. However, that night, when I took him home, he was in so much pain he fought me when I tried to feed him. While doing this, he further injured his "good" eye. Our amazing vet had no choice but to do the surgery. While he was in surgery, the family that brought him in found another one of his siblings. The sibling, Priscilla, had one eye like her brother's, which also had to be removed. They both came through surgery well and needed time to heal and recover.

Since Elvis was so young and so small, he only had so much skin to use to close his eyes. Because of this, his lip is raised on his left side, like a little snarl, hence the name Elvis. Elvis has had 3 additional surgeries since his original one to try and lower his lip a little. The vet is worried that if his teeth are exposed too much, his teeth and gums will dry out. He had his last and final surgery on September 13th and is now ready for his forever home. He must go with his sister as a 2-4-1.

Elvis is absolutely amazing and sometimes we do not even remember that he is blind. He tried and almost succeeded in catching flies. Once he knows his surroundings, he will not bump into things. He chases and pounces on his sister and the other kittens. His hearing and his sense of feeling are very, very heightened, which helps him to figure out what is going on. He is a sweetheart and comes when he is called. He is not always very fond of being picked up, I think, because he does not necessarily know where he is or if he is going to fall. Other times, he snuggles in and relaxes for a while. Priscilla is also a very sweet kitten, just a little more independent than her brother.

These two have been together and have depended on each other all of their short little lives and must stay together. They come home with me daily, so if you are interested in giving them their forever home and would like to meet them, please email me at sdusett@lollypop.org. Thank you. Sue Dusett

More about this shelter

Mission:
Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, works together with our community better the lives of animals through justice, prevention, and life-saving care.

Vision: A just and compassionate world for all animals.

Lollypop Farm is not your typical animal welfare organization. We don’t classify ourselves as merely a shelter, simply taking in and rehoming pets. Rather, we are your partner. We’ll work with you to build a just and compassionate world for all animals–to save animals from abuse and suffering, to find a resource to keep your pet, to guide you in adopting a new pet, to make the tough decision to say goodbye to your family friend or to share information on how to help animals in your daily life.
