Hello! 🦎 I’m Clifford the Little Red Tegu. I was surrendered to JRAAR on 9/5/24 because my previous owner, who got me from Petco, couldn’t provide for me anymore.

I’m about 2-3 years old and enjoy Tiki Cat canned food and eggs as a special treat. 🍳 I’m currently a bit skinny and missing a few fingers and toes, but I’m full of personality and ready for a loving forever home.

Tegu Care Tips
(Salvator rufescens)

Enclosure Size: Tegus need large enclosures—at least 8x4x4 feet for adults. Plenty of space to roam and climb is a must.
Temperature & Lighting: Provide a basking area of 95-110°F, with cooler areas around 75-85°F. Use a high-quality UVB light to support proper bone health.
Diet: Tegus are omnivores. A mix of lean meats, fruits, and veggies, as well as occasional eggs and quality reptile food like Tiki Cat canned food, works well. Calcium and vitamin supplements should be used as needed.
Humidity: Maintain humidity around 60-80%, which can be achieved with misting and proper substrate like cypress mulch or coconut coir.
Enrichment: Tegus are intelligent and enjoy exploring, so give them lots of items like logs, rocks, and plants to climb on. Interactive toys or hiding spots will keep them mentally stimulated.
Special Considerations: Clifford is missing some fingers and toes, which may require extra care when setting up his enclosure or during handling.
