Dog Name: Xander
Breed: Hound Mix
Sex: Male
Age: 4/5 months
Weight: 25ish lbs
Medical Needs: Neuter appointment scheduled for 11/19 at BVSPCA Georgetown. This appointment must be kept as a condition of adoption. Adopter must live within one hour of location.
Housebroken: working on it. He does pretty well with a schedule and is starting to show cues by sitting at doors but which door we don’t always realize sometimes the front sometimes the back. He hasn’t had any accidents in the crate.
Crate trained: somewhat. He does well at night as long as he can see and hear you as he settles down for the night. He likes to see you as you sing him a bedtime lullaby. He will get noisy if he doesn’t see you until he is ready to lay down for the night. He does wake occasionally and whine but settles back down. He does not like the crate during the day even when other dogs are crated.
Good in the car: yes
Good on a leash: Good, we are working on it. He pulls a bit but does well with even with older kids instructing him. He does better after he has been walked for quite a while as some of his energy is used up at this point.
Energy level: high to very high
Need a fenced in yard: no but will need many leash walks. He is very high energy and loves to run.
Dog Friendly: yes
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No but he would benefit from interaction regularly. He plays best with our large boxer mix.
Cat Friendly? Yes with proper instruction. He does well with most cats but is very pushy for our senior cat.
Kid Friendly: yes
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with proper supervision. The youngest child in his foster home is three. He’s very hyper and loves to play. He doesn’t always realize how sharp his puppy teeth are quite yet and needs redirection at times still. He has gotten quite happy to cuddle and settle down for a nice nap during a movie or show with a little one.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? He is very high puppy energy and vocal. He will let you know what he wants and what he wants is human contact. He loves people and being with them at all times.
