Aggie PKA Mariska is fostered in Lafayette, IN.
Looking at her photos, you can see what a gorgeous little girl Aggie is, but her looks don’t begin to rival her character! Aggie is a funny and incredibly intelligent, 40lb. 22-month-old Miniature Aussie girl. She is the perfect balance of personality and puppy playfulness! The versatile Aggie is super people oriented and social, but is absolutely joyous over a good romp with her male foster fur-siblings in the back yard, too.
Both amiable and curious, Aggie loves to participate in family activities. She’s big into toys and stuffed bones and generally seems to do well allowing her friends access to her treasures. She shares food and water bowls with her foster fur siblings and has never presented a problem with that. With typical Aussie exuberance, eagerness to please, and intelligence, Aggie has the potential to be a great agility dog, hiking partner, sidekick, farm hand, or world's greatest confidant.
Aggie is, of course, still very much a young Aussie that will need guidance and structure from her forever human or else she will run the show. She takes her cues from her foster mom and responds remarkably well to direction. She is very food motivated. Aggie has fairly nice house manners. She is reliably housebroken if she is let out at reasonable intervals. Her naughty puppy pranks include swimming in her oversize water bowl, attempts at counter surfing, and “gardening” (aka hole digging). Nothing a little guidance and maturity can’t fix. Aggie has been crated in the past and reportedly was comfortable sleeping in her crate, in her foster home she is gated in the kitchen when her foster parents are away and does fine.
Aggie has a high prey drive around smaller animals (rabbits, birds, cats and small dogs), so they would not be good housemates. Similarly, Aggie seems to prefer larger than her male dogs to female dogs and it seems she might like to be top dog in her new home. She is a bossy girl with other dogs. She would also do very well without another animal in the home and might be happiest if she just has friends she can dgo play with at the dog park, a neighbor's house or even daycare.
Aggie’s vitality and family-focus would make her a wonderful companion for an individual, a couple with no young children, or family with children at least 16-years-old or older. She is not comfortable with younger children.
Aggie’s adopter should:
- have herding dog knowledge/successful experience;
- be able to patiently guide and lead a smart and occasionally adolescently stubborn pup;
- continue training and engaging Aggie in physical and mental stimulation;
- have a home without younger children or small animals; and
- have a physical fence. (This is a requirement.)
In Summary: Aggie will make a WONDERFUL companion dog in the right environment. She is super bright and eager to learn, and super friendly to adult humans and most dogs. She would love to do a dog sport or trick training with her human. Aggie has worked successfully on sit, down, stay, come, shake and other commands. (Leash manners are a bit rusty.) She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, negative for heartworm and on monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm.
