UPDATE: PICASSO NEEDS TO FIND A NEW HOME NOW AT 1 YR OLD. THOUGH ABSOLUTELY NO FAULT OF HIS OWN, HE IS A GREAT BOY WHO LOVES KIDS. PLEASE FILL OUT THE APP SO I CAN PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH HIS FOSTER.

Fostered in Shawnee.. This little baby was born to a homeless mother and lived under a house for the first 6 weeks of their life, him and her siblings came in very scared of people but have turned around very quickly though they will continue to need special attention and love from a quiet warm home, they will not do well in very loud crazy homes as this is very scary to them. We are not interested in homes that will relegate them to the back yard to live alone. I am guessing mom is part terrier though many of the babies will have ears that stand so there is some shepherd in there. This baby has very fluffy soft hair Heinz 57 is the best way to describe them. SPayed  up to date on shots microchipped and wormed another young dog for company is ideal $125 FRON THE FOSTER-- I have to brag on our beautiful foster puppy. Picasso came into our home pretty darn scared; he didn’t want to make eye contact with us and hid in his crate. In less than two weeks, he’s sitting with us on the couch, giving us kisses, and becoming braver with each passing day. He’s easily one of the most intelligent, observant pups we’ve ever fostered! I have to assume those two traits are why he was so much more fearful compared to his siblings. When they were tossed like tr ash on a country road in December Picasso was probably hyper-aware of the danger they were in. Now he’s using those smarts to become a well-trained family member since he doesn’t have to be scared anymore! He’s also the easiest and most chill pup that we’ve quite possibly ever fostered. Sleeps through the night and kennel trained. He plays on his own but also loves my dogs. He observes everything they do and follows suit. He only cries when he needs to potty and sometimes when he’s lonely. I cannot tell you enough wonderful things about Picasso. He’s the king of pillows, blankets, and all things fluffy. It is the most adorable thing to find him perched in his safe spot (on the couch, in the prime corner section, AND on top of the pillows) with his ears perked up and those wise, green eyes meeting your gaze. He’s searching for a special home, a family who will give him time to adjust. He will be scared at first, no doubt about that. But once he adjusts and continues to grow, you will be rewarded with the most amazing love! SUCH a sweetheart. Picasso is going to be an incredible and loyal lifelong companion and I’m quite jealous of his future family. If there are kids, **the kids need to be trained** on how to quietly and gently be with him because Picasso is already so kind and tolerant. It’s in his nature. Out of the 250+ pups we’ve fostered, Picasso is one of the best. It’s tempting to keep him, but we have three wonderful dogs making it a full house. I am so confident that Picasso’s forever home is out there. This is a wonderful reminder that dogs need 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to start to know your routine, and 3 months to start to feel at home. Picasso is not damaged, he IS resilient, and holy cow, I can’t even imagine the perfect pooch he’d be in 3 months time...he’s already grown so much from that scared little boy I met two weeks ago. Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Adoption

If you are interested in adopting one of our wonderful dogs, the first step in the process is filling out an adoption application.
http://www.oksaveadog.org/adoption/online-application-form/
You can be assured that all the information will be used for the sole purpose of finding a companion that fits your lifestyle, and will never be sold or distributed in any manner. I need this information to see if a dog will work in your home, I will be the first one to tell you if a certain dog will not work in your home. My goal is to place dogs in their LAST home, so much thought is given to this process.

A minimal adoption fee will be charged. This is only to recoup some of the costs involved in caring for each dog. When I take in a dog they go straight to the vet as soon as she can take them. They are given shots, de-wormed, given Front line for flea/tick control, and spayed or neutered.

Please Note: I receive little assistance through grants or any other source except donations. My monthly cost for maintenance (food, flea/tick control, heart worm preventative) is $2000 to $2500. That doesn’t include additional needs such as pens, fencing, crates,
vet bills($3000 monthly) etc. When you consider these ongoing costs, you realize the adoption fee is truly minimal!

If you’re considering adoption, please fill out an application. If you are interested in one of our dogs I will contact you after reviewing your application. If you do not find a dog on our dogs page that interests you, don’t worry, there are many more needy dogs than I am able to house at my location — I will help you give a deserving dog a forever home!

Spaying and Neutering are REQUIRED – no dog is ever adopted intact…if you wonder why, please read the below…
The Facts About Spaying and Neutering

One female dog and her offspring can be the source of 67.000 puppies in six short years
One female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 kittens in seven years
Spaying a female eliminates the possibility of it developing uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the chances of breast cancer
Neutering a male reduces incidence of prostate enlargement and prostate cancer later in life
Neutering will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights or become lost
Pets become fat and lazy from a result of overeating and lack of exercise not from spaying or neutering
There is no need for a female to have a litter before she is spayed
Females can be spayed as early as 8 weeks old, it is MUCH less stressful on them.
Neutering a male is an easier operation than spaying and is recommended as early as 8 weeks
Your pet may feel some slight discomfort after the operation but this is controllable and lasts only a short while
Having puppies is much more painful than spaying because there is no anesthesia

We always have more dogs than we have funds . . . your donation is much appreciated!
OK Save a Dog is a 501(c)(3), not for profit organization. All donations are tax deductible.

More about this rescue

OK Save a Dog is a not-for-profit dog rescue in Prague, Oklahoma, committed to saving as many good dogs as possible.

This rescue is not in the business of buying or selling dogs . . . the adoption fee is designed to help recoup some of the money that has been spent on each dog – at a minimum, spaying/neutering, heart worm check and preventative, flea and tick control, de-worming and shots. The adoption fee allows me to continue helping dogs. I consider it an honor to be able to do what I do . . . I hope you consider it an honor to be able to help these deserving dogs by fostering, adopting or donating to help support them.

By adopting from us, you save more than one life! This is because as soon as we place one we can then go to the pound and save another.

We do ask that you fill out an application before visiting because we spend too much time and money saving dogs to just return them to the same situation that they came out of. If you do not see what you want, ask; there may well be one on death row that we know about but are too full to take in.

Thanks for helping us save these lovely dogs. We are a few doing the work of hundreds.
