My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Kenai and her brother were born while in foster care - their mom, Harley, had been surrendered to CT Humane about to give birth and a wonderful foster family was found to take mama in right before giving birth. Both babies were well cared for, kept with their mom, and socialized with humans and other dogs

After leaving the wonderful foster home she’s been in since birth, Kenai has immediately settled in her new surroundings. She has a friendly and curious outlook and is happy to meet new people and socialize.

Kenai is absolutely adorably goofy and loving. However, if you value personal space, you may want to move along to the next pup!!!
This precious girl likes to be near her foster mom as much as possible. And she will love you forever if you rub her belly.

She does not care for her crate (still def working on it). She is still not thrilled with loud noises, but otherwise is relaxed and happy.
Kenai will be a pretty big girl (according to her paw size) and we expect her to weigh over 75 pounds when all grown up.

Kenai is learning sit and stay very well and has been getting accustomed to housetraining. She is also very good on a leash for such a young pup. She just learned fetch and has been enjoying burning off the puppy energy!
She also loves to watch TV shows about dogs, like "Too Cute".
She is a big dreamer and it is just so entertaining to watch her sleep.

This girl is truly gorgeous inside and out and promises to be a wonderful loving gigantic gal!

ATTENTION PUPPY ADOPTERS:  You must attend training/behavior classes with your new dog unless you are an experienced dog owner and your adoption coordinator is comfortable with your experience.  This requirement is for the benefit of you and your puppy, so if you experience behavior issues, you have a point of contact.

PLEASE—Think long and hard before adopting a puppy. Consider the lifestyle change this puppy will come with. He cannot be crated for more than 3-4 hours until he's older. Puppy-proofing your home will be necessary. Puppies scratch and nip, so if you have small children, can they handle this? Training will be so important in this puppy's life. Do you have the time?

Please consider purchasing this book before adopting.  Perfect Puppy in 7 Days - How to Start Your Puppy Off Right, Sophia Yin, DVM - it is an amazing book that we recommend very highly and have had amazing feedback on.

More about this rescue

PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.

Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.
