My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kitt is such a beautiful soul. She is a great listener and enjoys having a strong owner who uses only positive reinforcement and exposure to keep her on her toes. She is friendly with other dogs, and has gotten very social over the last few weeks! She is playful and goofy and an awesome girl! She walks well on a leash (she can be a little bit of a prancer!), is crate trained, and house trained! Kitt loves people and has an amazing energy, ready to roll.

Kitt had a hard beginning, but she is resilient and will try everything at least once. Kitt needs to be handled with kid gloves with discipline. She is a pup still, and uses her mouth for everything, but cannot take much of a reprimand. It scares her into total submission, and does not like her neck being pulled or handled (she is used to a collar and leash now). Something happened in her mysterious past, but she is a lover and a beautiful soul. We have seen that through all of the amazing situations her foster has been able to do with her- camping, working in the office with other dogs and strangers, going for walks, being in a loud and car-full environment, being alone, going for car rides, anything and everything. She ends up getting comfortable in each situation and thrives outside. She does like the predictable, and likes to know what comes next, but with a confident owner who reminds her that she can do anything, she will do anything that is asked of her!

More about this rescue

We are a dog rescue focused on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Indian Reservations and the nearby border towns. At LightShine Canine we bring the heart of the Lakota and the needs of the dogs together. Our goal is to rescue stray, abandoned, injured or abused dogs on the Pine Ridge Reservation with the help of Lakota youth and adults working on sobriety...and to find these dogs forever homes. Our adoption fees help us continue to do this and to provide community outreach to Tribal members in the form of dog food, vaccines and spay/neuter. Our dog rescue work program is geared to ensure that the dogs we rescue and the Lakota who assist us with this dream are changed forever.
