My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CAPITAN NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:   Capitan        Best Guess for Breed:   Terrier and Dachshund mix

Best Guess for Age:   3 years and 4 months as of Sept. 2024          SEX:    Male

Approximate Weight:   52.5 lbs

Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We haven’t seen Capitan with cats or kids, but he can be tested!

Currently Living at:   DC area foster home

Special adoption considerations:    After being rescued from the streets, he was very scared and shut down. However, he has been making great strides. We think Capitan would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to continue to build confidence.

Capitan is Looking For:

Meet Capitan, a charming low-rider with a sleek black coat and a heart full of love! This handsome fellow is currently waiting for his forever home in a shelter in Puerto Rico. With his short, sturdy legs and playful demeanor, we think Capitan might have some dachshund mixed in, giving him that adorable, unique look that will surely melt hearts. He’s the perfect blend of spunky and affectionate, ready to become your new best friend.

Capitan is a laid-back companion who loves to lounge but is always up for a fun adventure. Whether it’s a stroll around the neighborhood or some snuggle time on the couch, he’s happy to be by your side. This sweet boy is hoping to find a family that will appreciate his playful spirit and shower him with the love he deserves. Could that be you?

What My Foster Says About Me:   Capitan is a sweet, curious and pretty laid back dog. He has done well on his walks and loooves to sniff along the way. He was not bothered by passing Amazon trucks, other dogs or squirrels. He likes to play with Mia my other foster and will engage with my resident dog Tucker who is a lot bigger. He loves to follow his humans around and enjoys playing with his toy rope.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
