My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet island girl looking for her forever home!

PATTY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:   Patty       Best Guess for Breed:  Terrier and Lab mix

Best Guess for Age:   9 months as of Sept. 2024        SEX:    Female

Approximate Weight:  35.8 lbs as of 9/24/24; likely is still growing!

Gets Along With:    Patty does well with other dogs and has lived with dogs in foster care. Patty lives with kids in foster care and does very well with them.

We have tested Patty with some of the cats at the shelter, and she did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Patty could live with a cat, she has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack!

Currently Living at:  DC area foster home

Check out this video of Patty: https://youtu.be/DwcU8YggKwg.

Special adoption considerations:    After being rescued from the streets, she was very scared and shut down. However, she has been making great strides. We think Patty would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure she can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to continue to build confidence.

Patty is unique in that, like many white animals, she is deaf.  This will require some alternative training techniques that involve visual cues.   As with any dog, training a deaf dog takes time and patience. There are some ways in which deaf and hearing dogs learn quite similarly. Repetition, reward, and consistency remain the pillars of success.  She also may startle more easily. This is a congenital abnormality and should have no medical impact on her.

Patty is Looking For:

Meet Patty, a sweet 9-month-old female with a soft white coat with tan accents! She is one of a litter of five - Padma, Panda, Patty, Peeps - who all came up from a Puerto Rico shelter to find their forever homes here. Patty may be deaf, but that doesn't stop her from being an affectionate and playful companion. She has a curious spirit and loves exploring her surroundings, making every moment spent with her full of joy. Patty is currently in a shelter in Puerto Rico, where she has won the hearts of everyone with her gentle nature and eagerness to connect with people.

Being deaf doesn’t slow Patty down one bit—she’s ready to start learning hand signals. She thrives in a calm, patient environment and would do well with a family that is willing to continue her training and provide the love and attention she deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal and loving companion, Patty would make a perfect addition to your family!

What My Foster Says About Me:  Amazing with kids! Does well with dogs. Sleeps all night and on car rides. Doing well with walks and does not pull. Working on potty training and very treat motivated. She does great with house guests and kids running around and just watches and sniffs people, no barking or jumping. Likes to chew on toys.

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online   at  bit.ly/adoptaluckydog.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
