PEPO NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name: Pepo        Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and heeler mix

Best Guess for Age:  10 months as of September 2024     SEX: Male

Approximate Weight:  48 lbs as of 9/7/23; likely has a bit more to grow.

Gets Along With:   Pepo is good with other dogs! We have tested him with some of the cats at the shelter and while he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that he could live with a cat, he has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack!
We haven't seen him with kids but he can be tested.

Currently Living at:   DC area foster home.

Special Adoption Considerations: After being rescued from the streets, he was very scared and shut down. However, he has been making great strides. We think Pepo would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to continue to build confidence.

Pepo is Looking For:   Hiya! I'm Pepo, and I came from Puerto Rico and am looking for my forever family. I've been told my humans are in the DC area, and I can't wait to find them! I'm a young boy and have lots of energy for playing with you and going on all those adventures with you and all that good stuff you get from having me by your side! I'll also help you test all those toys to see which are the best - ropes for tug? Balls for fetch? Plushies to squeak? Let's try them all! Cuddles and happy tail wags when I see you are part of the package, natch.

What do you say? Is that what you're looking for?

What My Foster Says About Me: Meet Pepo, an adorable pup rescued from Puerto Rico's streets and brought to the U.S. for a fresh start. Pepo loves to play, explore, and cuddle! Pepo is still learning the ropes of indoor life, but he is already showing his fun, silly, and smart personality. He loves trips to the dog park, where he is eager to learn new things. Pepo is gaining confidence daily, and with a little patience, he's sure to become an amazing companion!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
