My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.happy young sweetie ready to play!

CHARLENE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name: Charlene        Best Guess for Breed:  Shepherd and lab mix

Best Guess for Age:   1 year as of October 2024      SEX:   Female

Approximate Weight:   39 lbs

Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested.

Currently Living at:  Texas shelter - needs a human to make an offer to get up to the DC area!

Charlene is Looking For:   Her forever family! As young puppies, she and her brother Arthur, along with their mama Coopa, landed in a shelter so far south in Texas, it's only 30 miles from the Mexican border - and the shelter routinely has 1200+ animals in its care. Despite having such an enormous number to care for, shelter staff do an amazing job with all their dogs and Charlene is a great, loving dog and wonderful in playgroup with other dogs - she has been so well socialized with other dogs! Unfortunately, there is a massively skewed ratio of available homes to dogs in the area - so her only hope of getting a home is out of state. She is not bonded with Arthur and they will go to separate homes.

Charlene is truly such a big ol' sweetie who loves life and wants nothing more than to know who her humans are, where she belongs. She has all that awesome young-dog energy and is ready to accompany her humans on all those adventures - sniffy walks around the neighborhood, romps in parks, and trips to the beach - the mountains - Starbucks for pup cups - she's up for it all.  (A nice wading pool would be great too!) Making new pup and people pals along the way would be terrific too.

She's gonna be an amazing companion. What do you say? Will she be yours?

What My Foster Says About Me:   There are also way more dogs in that shelter than there are available fosters in the DC area. This section cannot be completed until she gets up here. If you'd like to foster or adopt her - see below!

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
