Meet Bella, our bouncy black boxer with a heart as big as her energy! This sweet girl came to us emaciated but is now on the ultimate journey to health—one tasty treat at a time! Full of playful antics, she gets along famously with cats but prefers to be the solo superstar when it comes to doggy playdates. With her contagious joy and endless wiggles, Bella’s sure to brighten any day!

Bella is up to date on her DAPPV, BORDETELLA, and RABIES vaccines. She has already been spayed and microchipped so now she just waits for a loving family to call her own. She has been wonderful to have around and we think she could make a great addition as a single-dog in a home! More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
