My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet *Peanut*, a resilient 7-year-old cat who came to us in rough shape, suffering from severe dental disease. She had been in immense pain for who knows how long, struggling just to eat a simple meal. After a necessary procedure to remove 10 of her teeth, Peanut is finally feeling much better and on the road to recovery. Now, she’s looking for a loving home where she can live pain-free, enjoy her meals without discomfort, and be spoiled with the comfort and care she deserves. Peanut is ready to relax and savor the cozy, peaceful life she’s always dreamed of!

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
