My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Toby and I’m a little 15 pounds Parti-Schnauzer with a lot of love to give to my special human(s). I am 11 years old, but when I get the zoomies and grab my fluffy stuffed animal and wrestle, you’ll think I’m much younger!

Most of my life I have been with other dogs and just recently, a cat and a guinea pig. My human mommy recently passed, and my human daddy moved to another state. There were 3 dogs in our home, but he could only take one of us. Therefore, I’m waiting for my new family to come along. My other brother has already found a home.

I walk well on a leash, but I really like to stop and investigate my surroundings. New sights and sounds are curious to me. I may bark a little upon seeing another dog or person, but I settle soon. I haven’t been around children very much. I get nervous easily, but I am never aggressive. I’m not used to being around a lot of people or activities so a smaller household may be best for me.

I started out having some accidents in my foster home. After I learned where the “potty door” was and how to get the attention of my foster parents, I have not had any issues since. I’m a good boy and just want to be with my humans. In fact, the song “Me and My Shadow” is very appropriate for me.

I love food and the vet suggested I lose some weight. Taking walks and watching how much and what I eat helped me to get close to my preferred size. No more mid-night snacks!

Let me warn you, I snore; just a little. I also talk. It reminds my foster mother of a little piglet. She says I have the wrong name. I have conversations with her sometimes.

I usually need to be let out to potty around every 4 hours. Having someone working from home or retired would be a perfect match. When I am left home alone, I will cry or bark. I have separation anxiety. That should improve once I have a solid place to call home and know they will return. I can be trusted not to tear anything up when my family is away from home.

I am updated on all my shots and flea/heart meds. I’m neutered and have had my teeth cleaned. I’m also crate trained. But I prefer to be right by your side, both morning and night. I sleep in a dog bed on the floor next to my foster parents’ bed. I really just want to be in bed next to them. I’m a cuddler!
