My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Canela’s story is one of resilience, loyalty, and a heart full of love, despite never knowing what it’s like to have a real home. This 5-year-old 55 lb Lab mix (mixed with what we’re not sure – maybe Black Mouth Cur…) has spent her entire life in a backyard, enduring the Florida heat, rain, and cold. Over the years, Canela gave birth to three litters before she was finally spayed—but even then, her former owners never let her inside the home. Yet, despite this tough start, Canela has remained the sweetest, most gentle girl, always eager to please and be loved.  She’s a little shy and can even be a bit afraid of strangers at first, but once she gets to know you, she blossoms into the most affectionate, trusting companion. She’s great with other dogs and doesn’t react to cats. Canela’s life was about to take another heartbreaking turn when her owners said they were moving and planned to dump her. Thankfully, a kind-hearted neighbor, who had been petting her and giving her treats over the fence for years, couldn’t bear to see her abandoned. This neighbor took her in, doing everything she can to care for Canela in a shaded area outside—but she knows that Canela deserves so much more.  She’s a healthy and already knows basic commands like “sit” and “down.” She’s still working on her leash skills, but with a little patience, she’ll get there in no time.  This sweet girl has spent enough time outside looking in. She deserves to experience the warmth of a family and the comfort of a loving home with children over 10 years old. She has her excitable happy moments but calms down immediately and just wants to lay by your side and receive belly rubs. Canela has so many years of love left to give, and she’s ready to be someone’s loyal companion. Will you be the one to show her what it feels like to truly belong?  If you’re ready to give Canela the forever home she’s been waiting for, please reach out. You won’t just be rescuing her—you’ll be gaining a best friend for life. $250 Adoption fee includes vaccines, spay, heartworm test, deworming, and microchip.
