My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Abby is a 7 year old Shih Tzu/poodle mix. The first part of Abbey's life was nothing but producing puppies for profit and living in a barn.  We are so excited to be part of her second life journey as a pet and now forever loved!

Abby was used for breeding and came in extremely afraid of everything. She has been in rescue for a little bit and has shown a lot of improvement. Abby loves other dogs, and we would like her to have one in her new home. She likes to play and share her bed with a buddy!

Abby is doggy door trained and will use pee pads overnight. She will likely regress and need a little work in her forever home to get used to a new life and routine. She is crate trained, but we don’t crate her often in her foster home. She is terrified of a leash at this time, so a fenced-in yard is a must - no invisible fences please.

Abby does bark when strangers come over; otherwise, she is pretty quiet when you are home with her. She isn’t a huge fan of small kids due to their fast movements. She would never harm them; she is just very nervous around them. We would prefer that she does not live with them full-time. Visiting children would be fine for her. She does require regular grooming, and although afraid, she is very cooperative.

Abby is still timid with people. She prefers to hang out with dogs over people. She is not a dog that will walk up to you asking for affection, but Abby will follow you around the house. When you get up from your seat on the couch, Abby will go looking for you or even take your seat! Abby will allow you to pet her and love on her, and you can pick her up, though she may be still a bit nervous. This has been a huge improvement for Abby. She really needs someone who is willing to pick her up, sit on the couch with her on a daily basis, and help her adjust to life outside of the cage. Abby has shown us that she is ready to move on and start bonding with her forever family. If you think Abby is the right match for you, make sure you apply today!

Abby is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  Her adoption fee is $400

Please go to our website and read about the dog there as well as all pertinent info. for adopting this dog. IF THERE IS INFORMATION NOT INCLUDED IN THE DOGS PROFILE THAT IS NECESSARY FOR YOU TO MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHETHER ,,,GENERALLY SPEAKING,,,,THIS DOG IS A GOOD FIT FOR YOUR FAMILY, THEN PLEASE GO AHEAD AND EMAIL WITH THAT SPECIFIC QUESTION. We will be happy to answer questions not already covered in the thorough amount of info already printed on our website. We are all volunteers with jobs and families and probably more dogs than you, so please understand that we are very busy. We are not able to keep up with the constant general questions and phone call requests that, with a little time and reading on your part, is already included on our website. Replying to all emails makes it very difficult to do our jobs as well as we would like.
All dogs who have adoptions PENDING, will have that info printed right next to their name. Having a pending adoption does not make it a done deal, it means that we are at the home visit/meet and greet phase of the adoption and it could go one way or another so feel free to check back on the status of the dog in question.
We do not have a facility for you to come and visit our dogs. They are in our homes, sleeping in our beds and lounging on our sofa. We value our privacy and do not open our homes to visitors wanting to meet "all the dogs".
Thank you for your interest in our wonderful Pixie Mamas pooches. Without you adopters we could not continue to do what we do. We appreciate your time and effort as well ,to comply with what is needed for us to keep Pixie Mamas Rescue going with as little stress and extra time as necessary.
Our adoption fees start at $200, some highly adoptable dogs are more and others are less - that will be stated in their profiles.
Good luck in finding the right dog for your family.

More about this rescue

Pixie Mamas Rescue (PMR) is a group of volunteer dog lovers whose mission is to rescue, provide sanctuary, and ultimately to re-home abandoned, stray and neglected dogs. We also assist dogs who, because of extenuating circumstances, are unable to remain in their homes. We aid in the rescue of small breed dogs. We are located in Western New York.
All PMR dogs are housed in foster homes where they are provided with an enormous amount of love and any medical attention that may be required to insure that they are in good health before adoption. They are all spayed or neutered and brought up-to-date on shots before being placed in their new homes.
All dogs are evaluated for temperament and personality. This helps us to place them in homes that are well suited to their needs and to the needs of their future owners.
