My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ready for any adventure!

Hi, there! My name is Billy aka Kullen, and I’m a 3.5-year-old, 47-pound Terrier/Border Collie Mix male. I was relinquished by my owner who I’ve lived with since I was 12 weeks old.  Now, though, it’s time for a fresh start, and I’m ready to find my furever home!

I’m a sweet boy who makes a great companion once I get used to new environments and humans.  I love playing with doggie friends who I already know, getting lots of pets, and having my paws shaken. I’m also up for any adventure – the beach, a hike, the grocery store – you name it! As long as I’m with you, I’m happy to be along for the ride.

One thing that I’m working on is my high anxiety. Situations, such as new people entering the house or seeing new dogs while on a walk, can make me very anxious and sometimes cause me to be territorial or aggressive.  However, true to my breed, I am a working dog, so I get nervous when I don’t have guidance or a job to do.  Therefore, I need consistent mental and physical stimulation.  If my needs are met, I’ve found I have less energy to become anxious.

As far as my training goes, I am fully potty-trained, and although I have gone through formal leash training, I have not yet mastered my leash skills. I am still working on my leash reactivity toward people, dogs, and cars, but I respond well to check-ins and with communication from whoever is handling me. I do great around other doggies, and I’ve never had an issue at off-leash parks or at doggy daycare. Kitties are a big no-no for me since I like to chase them, but I do well with kids once I get used to them.  Other than that, I’m in great health and have already been neutered.

I would do best in an active home – either with a couple or with a family with kids (6 years and older).  I need a strong handler who can provide me with guidance and structure, as well as someone who can continue to invest time into training me and helping me work through my anxiety issues.  I would also absolutely thrive in a home that likes to take me on all their adventures – I love to be on the go!

Are you The One? My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
