My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Boise is a super cute, sociable four-year old calico cat (we think her spots make her look like a little cow) that loves nothing more than being with her humans.  She will follow anyone who is home around, from room to room, brushing up against a hand or leg for a pet wherever you stop.  If you are not giving her the attention she desires while sitting on the couch, she will politely ask for pets by outstretching her paw and softly tapping your arm. While Boise loves pets and seeks them out throughout the day, she will let you know when she has had enough with a look or a light swat. Even if she says “no more for now”, she will stay put by your side, purring and enjoying sitting close by.

Once she gets comfortable, Boise likes to have conversations (we once meowed back and forth 32 times).  So far she has loved her wand toy.  Boise is great with the litterbox, and is a grazer - preferring bites of dry food throughout the day over wet food.  She is not particularly food motivated, nor has she taken a liking to treats (as of yet).  She simply wants to hang out by finding the softest spot to take a nap by your side, occasionally waking up for a pat before settling back down.

In her short time at her foster home we have seen her develop trust every day, with consistent love at a stable home, Boise will make an incredible companion cat! Given she will seek out affection, but decide halfway through that she is done with pets, we suggest she would be ideal for a home without children.

This cat has been diagnosed with a heart murmur and would benefit from an echocardiogram -- we would appreciate it if their potential adopter could help us cover this cost in lieu of an adoption donation.

This cat would prefer to be adopted alone and be the only cat in the home.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
