TRIXIE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:    Trixie      Best Guess for Breed:    Red Heeler and Terrier mix

Best Guess for Age:    3 years as of Sept. 2024       Gender:    Female

Approximate Weight:    50 lbs

Gets Along WithOther dogs! We haven’t seen Trixie with kids, but she can be tested! Trixie should not go to a home with cats.

Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter - Trixie needs a foster or adopter to make her way to the DC area

Special Adoption Considerations: Trixie is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.

We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!

Trixie is smart, loyal, and eager to please, with all the wonderful traits that come with her heeler heritage. Whether it's learning new tricks, going on adventures, or relaxing by your side, Trixie is ready to be your new best friend.

Trixie’s energy level makes her a great match for anyone who enjoys outdoor activities, but she’s just as happy curling up for some quality downtime after a fun day. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to share life’s adventures, Trixie is waiting for you to bring her home!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
