- 15mo Belgian Malinois
âï¸: Just started evaluating him after 3 weeks of crate rest, so keep in mind continued improvements & changes are likely to be seen. I’m starting him with basic OB / leash manners / recall, building handler engagement, and conditioning him to the prong. Videos available on request.
â
:
• Offers exceptional engagement for food in new environments, around strangers, barking dogs, moving cars, etc. Wasn’t bothered at all by my husband & his friend chopping wood right next to us, cares way more about the kibble in my treat pouch & ignores everything else.
• High food drive + medium toy drive — LOVES a tug!
• Perfect at the vet, no handling concerns with strangers.
• Very confident — has no issue climbing up/over things to get to the tug or food.
• Travels in a crate perfectly, not a single noise through 10+ hour transport.
• Picking up training insanely fast (pictures below of him luring for his kibble for the first time). Responds appropriately to correction & leash pressure on a prong, offers loose leash heel for kibble.
• Friendly & excited when greeting new people
• Doesn’t seem to be destructive with bowls, durable toys in crate, etc.
â¤ï¸ :
• Not used to being crated as he’s lived outside on a chain spot his whole life, so he‘s still learning to settle in the crate & can be a nuisance barker, but isn’t trying to chew his way out by any means lol.
• Needs handler direction to figure out where to put his drive & energy. He’s never had genuine, consistent engagement with a handler and needs shown proper outlets until he can rely on consistency of routine with a new owner. Has tons of energy, just doesn’t know where to put it yet.
• Shows some barrier reactivity when crated near passing dogs, but zero reactivity to those same dogs when he’s loose & they’re crated.
• Needs work on impulse control, duration in commands, settling.
:
• Active family/couple/individual with experience in high-drive working breeds, owner needs to be at least somewhat educated in the training scene & willing to offer guidance through patience + consistency. He needs someone who is enthusiastic about creating a relationship with him through play & structured routine.
• Would likely enjoy scentwork / tracking, dock diving, agility, disc, etc. This dude LOVES to jump & leap!
• Somewhat lived around a toddler in previous home, but wouldn’t recommend him for an average pet lifestyle with kids under 12 due to mouthy/snappy nature when excited.
• Said to do great with other dogs, will begin to evaluate this more soon. Unsure how he is around cats or small animals but will work to evaluate him in that.
:
• UTD on all vaccines
• Neutered 09/25/24
• HW neg
• Current weight: 46lbs
— some transport help available
