Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sally-girl; the basenjitude is real! Weighing in at approx 19 pounds, this 3 year old girl has led a life of being the princess, and never expects any less! This darling girl parades everywhere, like she simply owns the place, and we adore her for it! Since her very first day with us; she has run her very own show! She enjoys brisk walks in the morning, and at night; then she's the biggest cling, ever! She hasn't been too big of a playgroup player yet, she joins in to explore the dog yard when she feels up to it! We believe once she begins to feel more at ease at the shelter, she will begin ruling the dog yard, as well! While Sally loves all people, the treats, attention, and love we give; she picks and chooses which dogs she likes. The dogs she does like, she happily allows within her circle of personal space, those she doesn't, well, let's just say she gets a little snappy with it! Luckily though, as a notorious 'cat-like' dog, Sally loves cats! While she plays a little rough sometimes, likely due to being such a young girl, we reckon she will grow out of it. You may wonder if she chortles, the answer is, yes! Sally is more than willing to sing whenever she gets very, very excited about something, and it is darling.
Sal is indeed, a purebred Basenji, who just so happens to be missing half of her right ear due to an accident when she was just a tiny pup. Due to alllll the love & training this girl has had; we know for a fact that she is crate-trained, house-broken, knows simple commands, AND walks very, very well on the leash!
Since Basenji's are more of a 'difficult' breed, her adopters must possess breed knowledge // and or experience with them to ensure she finds her best match.

More about this shelter
We are a non-profit organization out of Monticello, IA specializing in the care for dogs and cats that need us. Our care does not stay local, as we take transports from all over the United States, and adopt all over as well!
Our mission's primary focus is to help reduce the homeless pet population by finding homes for spayed/neutered pets, and helping educate WHY this process is so important, and the proper way to care for pets!
