Butternut is a 5 month old Dachshund mix who is ready to squash his way into your lap for nonstop cuddles! Butternut was rescued from the shelter with a few of his furry friends. We don’t know how a puppy as handsome as him landed behind bars, but we knew we had to give him a second chance. We scooped him up and away we went! Butternut currently weighs 6 pounds and we expect him to max out around 10 pounds as an adult. If you’re looking for a pint-sized pal, adopt Butternut!

Butternut is a total lovebug looking for his human to shower in love and puppy kisses. He is a little shadow and expertly weaves his way around his foster mom as she goes about her day. Once Butternut got comfortable in his foster home, he totally blossomed and showed us how amazing he is. We can’t believe his former people didn’t see his potential because we sure do! Butternut has a happy go lucky personality and is a great companion to the resident dog. He would love a furry friend in his forever home to spend his days with! Butternut is the kind of dog who is both playful and looking for his snuggles. If you sprinkle his day with both, he’s pleased as punch! He has the softest fur and he acts like a little baby when he is ready for cuddles. If you let him sit on your lap he will snooze with his little tongue adorably peeking out of his mouth. Butternut has an irresistible set of puppy dog eyes and is ready to melt hearts wherever he goes. Bring home this fall flavor today!

Butternut wakes up between 7-8 AM and heads out for a morning potty session. He spends some time romping around the yard as he gets his zoomies out. He has his breakfast around 7 AM and then hangs out with his foster brother as they play around the house and yard. He goes out in the yard every few hours for a potty and play break. In the afternoon, he loves to lounge on his foster mom’s lap as she gets some work done. Once the workday ends, Butternut and his foster brother have some more playtime in the yard. He loves his toys and his tennis balls for fetch! Dinner is served at 6 PM and evenings are spent playing until he tires himself out. He goes out for one last potty at 11 PM and then he heads to his crate for bed.

Butternut adores his canine foster sibling and would thrive in a home with a resident confident dog. Since he is such a petite dude, he’d do better in a home with slightly older kids. Butternut is getting used to the leash and responds well to positive encouragement! He would love a home looking for a road warrior buddy. He just wants to do everything with you and make a lifetime of happy memories. We can’t wait to see Butternut blossom once he meets you and joins your family!

Butternut is an option for homes with prior dog experience, even if the experience is less recent. Kids in the home should be over the age of 11.

More about this rescue

We are passionate folks who love dogs and love people! We strive to make the most appropriate match between human and canine. Because our dogs live in foster homes we know about their temperament and personality and therefore can help families and individuals decide if the dog is a good match or not. We are excited to help people find the right pooch for them and look forward to meeting great folks and welcoming them into the DPS Family.
