For Adopt a Pet and the PEDIGREE® brand, October is all about finding homes for dogs in shelters. Adopt this month for a PEDIGREE® Wet Food Pouch and a chance to win a Homecoming-style photo shoot and shelter donation.
Moose joined the CVHS family when his previous person had a change in their living situation, and the new arrangement was not working for Moose.
With such upheaval in his life, it was no surprise to us when Moose relied on classic Shepherd behaviors, such as being extra cautious about new people, and staying on high alert as he figured out his new surroundings. A reliable, consistent routine, and positive experiences with everyone, has helped him to relax and gain confidence. Now some other classic Shepherd traits have shown up, such as wanting to always be with his person, and liking multiple people to stand together -- he's great at gently guiding everyone to one area of our yards!
Moose needs a new family with Shepherd experience, who will understand his demeanor, behavior, and feelings. He is a homebody, and is not looking for a highly social life -- he would love someone who is home most of the day and enjoys having a velcro shadow around the house and property. He loves our fenced yards; he likes to check the perimeter, and watch all the goings-on from a secure distance.
Moose is uncertain with fast movements, and is still a little touch sensitive, so we think young children would not be a good fit for this guy. Moose is disinterested in the other dogs he's seen while here, and in his previous home he had strong feelings against a small dog he lived with, so we feel he'd settle in most happily without other dogs in the home. We have no information on how he feels about cats. Moose may need multiple visits from an interested adopter before he's comfortable enough to go home with them.
A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Moose's $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and to determine if you should meet Moose.
