Ziggy is a 35 pound, estimated 10-12 month old Border Collie mix who was cared for by a kind family when he and his sister, Alexa, showed up on their farm. He is cautious around new people and dogs for the first 60 seconds, then relaxes and wants to play.
Ziggy has been in MO-Kan’s foster cares since September 13th. He is very treat motivated and has learned that sitting gets him results. Once he realized that the foster home’s two resident dogs didn’t want to eat him, he began to enjoy games of chase and wrestle. He is very much an adolescent: playful and puppylike and lacking life experience to form opinions on much beyond food and crates.
Ziggy thrives on companionship. He and his sister were two playful peas in a pod. Separation was best for them so they could individually be trained and gain confidence as they matured. For more on this, “Littermate Syndrome”, a behavior description, is worth a quick google. Ziggy is used to being crated with a mid-day break during the workday. He keeps a clean kennel and knows that potty goes outside. He hasn’t been left unattended to test his potty training as he is very curious about everything new and still chews. Ziggy does not like to be left alone, so he has a crate in the foster’s bedroom, where he sleeps through the night without a peep.
Ziggy would do best with a fenced yard and a dog friend who loves to run and play. He is respectful of the foster home’s elderly dog and also to the kindly dominant, playful adult dog. We have not observed him around children or cats. With continued basic training and a routine, he’ll be somebody’s special little buddy.
Ziggy is being fostered in the Kansas City, MO area.
