My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Bentley, the cutest 5-year-old Beagle/Border Collie mix with a heart of gold! Weighing in at 36 pounds, this little guy is a bundle of love wrapped in a short, snuggly white and tan coat. With his big, soulful eyes and adorable floppy ears, Bentley is guaranteed to steal your heart in no time!

Bentley isn’t just any dog; he’s one of the kindest and most affectionate companions you could ever ask for! His gentle nature makes him a perfect buddy for families and kids alike. He’s fully house-trained and knows just when to ask for a potty break. He’s also crate-trained and can tolerate being in a crate if needed, but he’d much rather be curled up next to you, soaking up all the love and attention.

This little adventurer has a playful spirit and a high energy level, so he’s always ready for action! Whether it’s a game of fetch in the backyard or a brisk walk around the neighborhood, Bentley is up for it. His dream home would include a fenced yard where he can explore and play to his heart's content. After playtime, you’ll find him happily cuddling up for some quality snuggle time—he’s a certified cuddle bug, and he believes there’s no such thing as too many belly rubs.

Bentley has a friendly and curious nature with other dogs, but he will prefer to get to know other dogs before living with them. His interactions are typically characterized by polite sniffing and playful antics. He’s also been cat-tested and gets along wonderfully with feline friends—he’s a true gentleman!

One of Bentley’s favorite pastimes is sticking his adorable head out the car window, soaking up the fresh air and feeling like the king of the world. He’ll wag his tail like a little helicopter whenever you call his name, bringing a smile to everyone around.

Bentley was recently neutered, and is currently taking Doxycycline for Lyme and Anaplasmosis to keep him healthy and happy. He shows no signs of separation anxiety, making him a low-maintenance companion who’s perfectly content to lounge around while you’re busy.

If you’re searching for a loyal, playful, and absolutely adorable companion, Bentley is the one for you! This sweet boy is ready to fill your home with love and laughter. Are you ready to welcome this furry bundle of joy into your life?

The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
