My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Albert, the most adorable 4-month-old Shepherd mix who’s sure to steal your heart! With his brown and black coat and big, sparkling eyes, this little bundle of joy weighs in at a delightful 25 pounds of pure puppy charm. Just look at that sweet face—how can you resist?

Albert is a spirited ball of energy who loves to play! Whether he’s chasing after his squeaky toys (his favorite pals are Olaf and Sven from Frozen), or zooming around with his doggy brother, he’s always ready for some tail-wagging fun. Albert’s playful nature means he would thrive in a home with another dog to join in on the adventures.

While Albert is still mastering potty training, he’s making fantastic progress and is learning to let his humans know when he needs to go outside. For now, he’s a fan of potty pads, proving he’s a smart little learner. Although he’s almost crate-trained, he enjoys snuggling in his cozy crate attached to a puppy pen where he feels safe and secure.

This sweet boy has a heart full of love for everyone he meets! Albert adores kids and is always eager to join in their fun. Just a heads-up—like any typical puppy, he can be a little jumpy with excitement, so keeping an eye on him around younger children is a good idea. He’s also curious about cats, approaching them with a friendly demeanor and a playful spirit, eager to investigate.

He’ll often tilt his head up and wait for you to give him a kiss, his big puppy eyes filled with anticipation. He believes that sitting nicely in front of you is the secret to earning treats, and he has an irresistible excitement over a bowl of ice cubes. Watching him dive into a pile of ice cubes is bound to make you laugh!

Albert is becoming quite the little explorer! He’s getting the hang of leash walking and loves to take in all the sights and sounds of the great outdoors. Although he’s still adjusting to car rides and can be a bit hesitant around sudden loud noises, he’s making progress and becoming more comfortable with every adventure. With a high energy level, he thrives on several short walks and lots of playtime with his brother, ensuring he gets all the exercise he needs.

Albert is not neutered yet, but he will be in the coming weeks and is set to be ready for adoption by October 15. Come meet this little lovebug and see for yourself how he’ll make every day brighter!

The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
