Mickey is an amazing dog and an absolute sweetheart! Being a husky, Mickey needs an adopter with patience and consistency who can provide him with opportunities to get his energy out. An adopter with previous husky experience is preferred. Mickey would probably not be a good fit for a first time dog owner.
Mickey has a sensitive stomach and is on a restricted diet that does NOT require a prescription. He is currently eating Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Sweet Potato & Salmon CANNED food (3-4 cans per day), and for treats we use freeze dried salmon. Please ask for more details if you are interested in adopting Mickey!
Mickey does have a very high PREY DRIVE, so we recommend a home with NO cats and NO small animals. Mickey experiences separation anxiety and would not do well left alone for long periods of time. He would thrive in a home with another dog that has similar energy for play. (A meet & greet is strongly recommended.) As an only dog, Mickey would do best with an active adopter who has lots of time and attention to give. In his foster home Mickey sleeps in his kennel in the bedroom all night and will “kennel up” at bedtime easily. During the day he still requires a treat to “kennel up”. He will tolerate being kenneled for short periods during the day but ends up howling if it’s for an extended time. Sometimes when the kennel door is opened he will choose to stay in the kennel or will even go to bed on his own. Mickey really looks forward to his morning and evening walks, and they're a great outlet for his energy. Although Mickey is not a fan of the gentle leader headcollar, that is what we usually use on walks. Even with the gentle leader, Mickey can get overly excited when other dogs are barking or if someone is jogging or rollerblading nearby. We have not had Mickey around small children. Because Mickey is energetic, fast, and doesn't know his own strength, we think he would probably do best with older kids.
Mickey can be skittish and can take awhile to warm up to new people. He gets nervous when he hears landscapers, fireworks, and some vehicles.

The Follow Your Heart Foundation is committed to preventing the unnecessary euthanization and abuse of abandoned and/or abused animals.
In order to fulfill this mission, Follow Your Heart will engage in the following activities:
Foster Program-Animals will be rescued from shelters and placed in temporary foster homes to save them from being euthanized. During this time, animals will be provided with proper nutrition, shelter and analysis to determine appropriate long term housing.
Adoption Services - the organization will work to find each animal that is rescued a forever home that is willing and able to make the long term commitment to a family pet.
Public Education - Abuse, neglect and irresponsible pet ownership leads to thousands of animals being killed each year. One way to combat these issues is through continued public education to not only raise awareness about animal abuse, but also promote responsible pet ownership.
Medical Treatment - Animals rescued will be provided proper medical treatment as needed.
