Say hello to Athena! Athena is an approximately three-year-old, nine-pound Chihuahua mix, adoptable through Chi Town Rescue. Athena originally came in with 10 other dogs, from a large hoarding case. The owner was moving and wanted all the dogs euthanized. Chi Town agreed to take in 11 small-breed dogs, including Athena. We noticed immediately that Athena was attempting to urinate often, and had an Xray done at our vet. We discovered she had a large bladder stone, which was surely causing immense pain, and required immediate surgery. Athena has healed well and is doing great overall. She will require special "urinary care" food to help prevent future bladder stones. Athena clearly hasn't had much experience being a cared-for pet, but we are hoping to change that for her! Athena is shy with new people and may nip if reached for too fast. Once she warms up to you though, she will follow you around for attention and loves to be pet and held. She does well with other dogs and is used to sharing her space with multiple other animals. We are looking forward to getting to know Athena as she settles in more to life at Chi Town Rescue. She would do best in a home with no small children. She will need a home willing to provide her with the patience and security she needs to blossom. Could that home be YOURS? Email us at chitownrescue@gmail.com for more information/meet and greet with Athena. Athena's adoption fee includes spay surgery, prior vet care for bladder stone, Rabies certificate, vaccinations up to date, and microchip.
