My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Herman the Worm (formerly Dallas): Your New Adventure Buddy!

Herman the Worm is a spirited and playful young dog with energy to spare. This high-energy boy knows basic commands like sit, stay, and down and is working on paw and focus. He shares his home with a lively 4-year-old, and while their high-energy antics often result in fun, Herman's exuberance can occasionally knock the little one over. For this reason, he might do best with older children who can handle his enthusiasm. Herman thrives in social settings with other dogs and enjoys regular playdates with a husky, a pitbull, and a bulldog at a large fenced-in area near his apartment. Whether it's tug-of-war or chasing after balls, Herman shares toys beautifully and relishes every moment of canine camaraderie. With strangers, his excitement to make new friends is boundless, but he quickly settles with a bit of patience and calm introductions.

Housebroken and attentive, Herman communicates his bathroom needs by curling his tail upward and heading to the door. However, he's not shy about letting you know if you're taking too long! A fan of three meals of dry adult dog food a day (wet food isn't his thing), Herman stays happy and healthy. He's a quiet companion who doesn't bark, and when it's time to wind down, he's the ultimate cuddle buddy. Whether he's snuggling on the couch or chewing on a bone while you clean, Herman is as loving as he is active. This affectionate, well-mannered pup is ready to bring his boundless energy and big heart to his forever home.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
