My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐾💛🌴Meet Felix, a “Sato dog” from Puerto Rico! A “Sato dog” refers to the small to medium-sized stray dogs on the island. Island dogs are smart, loyal, highly trainable, and thrive on routines and consistency. They have wonderful demeanors, make devoted companions, adjust well to their environments, and are a perfect mix of energetic and affectionate. There is no love like the love of an island dog.

(Five week update: 10/30/24): Felix is another sibling rescued off the streets in late August (Firu, Fred, and Fernando’s sibling). They were all found in Trujillo Alto, PR with a pack of stray dogs. Felix is sweet, playful, independent, and enjoys the company of doggie friends. He shares his foster home with another Sato, his brother, Fred, and a cat. (He has briefly been around a 10 and 17 year old, another dog, and another cat). He also spends some time in his “second foster home” in Baltimore, MD with more doggie friends. Felix is a loving soul and a prime example of why patience and time are important! The progress he is making is incredible and he is full of life, especially once comfortable. Trusting people was overwhelming and we are proud of how far he has come thanks to the compassionate individuals who play a big role in his progress. He is gaining confidence with both his dog friends and individually. He will keep up slow-movements with socialization, including more human interactions, and continue learning that he is safe. Felix walks nicely on a leash/harness, doing incredible with potty training, and grasping routines smoothly! He has become quite the explorer during walks and those tail wags really get moving! He LOVES toys and will remove every single one from the bin. He is food-driven, knows “sit”, has zero food aggression with humans or other dogs, and does great with crate training. Bedtime is a breeze and he sleeps the night without a peep. Felix is realizing that cuddles aren’t as scary and is more accepting of being loved. Felix would do best with a patient adopter/family who understands and allows him time to shine. He needs and deserves someone to match his big heart and the love he has to give. Once that bond is created, the relationship he provides is special. He will thrive going to a home with another dog friend as he brightens up around them and follows their lead. Comforting words and physical comfort play a big role in development and adjustment periods. Structure goes far with praise and proper direction provided. (The father of the litter is unknown and possible idea of who mom may be).
