My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Mutt Damon (AKA Sylvester)! This sweet boy is an Australian Cattle Dog mix and approximately 4 years old. At 50 pounds, he’s a medium sized boy who will miss no opportunity to be a lap dog!

There are very few things that Mutt Damon hates aside from watching you play Mario Kart and his crate! He can be coaxed into his crate with treats but doesn’t enjoy staying for very long. Since being in rescue, he’s proven to be a very good boy who does well outside of the crate at night and when home alone. He’s been known to bark occasionally when his people leave or come home and prefers to see them throughout the day. For this reason, Mutt Damon may not be a candidate for shared walls.

Mutt Damon is the perfect hiking buddy and is always ready for adventure! He requires a medium level of activity and enjoys long walks each day. A fenced yard would be ideal to help burn off extra energy but this is not a requirement.

Mutt Damon hasn’t had long interactions with other dogs yet but he is very eager to make furry friends on walks. He is careful and respectful of their boundaries when they meet. For this reason, it’s likely he would do well in a home with other dogs. He’s not yet met a cat and we aren’t sure how he’d react. A cat meet and greet may be necessary prior to adoption.

As far as kids go, we aren’t sure how he would react. When he gets excited, he has a tendency to be a bit jumpy and mouthy. For this reason, young children may not be ideal for Mutt Damon.

Mutt Damon’s ready to meet his forever family! With lots of love and a consistent home to hang out in, he will be the ultimate best friend anyone could ask for. If you’re interested in learning more about Teddy and think he might be a good fit, fill out an application using the link below to learn more! Whoever becomes his family will be lucky they did.

The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%.
Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown.
Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
