My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rocco! Rocco is a handsome, sweet and gentle nine-year-old Beagle boy, weighing around 40 lbs. He really loves dogs and people, is good with kids and enjoys meeting everyone.

When it is time for a walk, short or long, Rocco’s favorite thing to do is sniff his way down the sidewalk or trail, taking in every scent that came before him, and knowing he has his best pal or pals by his side. The rest of the day, Rocco is happy to snooze away while you are working from home, although he does enjoy some short walks outside or a trot around the back yard to stretch his legs and smell the grass and breeze.

As far as potty training goes, if you just let Rocco out in your back yard 2-3 times a day, he will take care of his business right away. Coupled with early morning and nighttime walks for exercise, Rocco is pretty much a golden boy. After a couple of accidents in the first few days at his new foster home, following being left by his prior owner at the scary shelter, he has been perfect. Rocco’s foster family learned he will nudge them if he really needs to get out in a hurry. Additionally, Rocco sleeps through the night for at least 7 hours at a time without needing to go out. Rocco actually seamlessly blended into a new routine at a new home almost immediately. He is such a gentleman.

If you need to leave for a few hours and Rocco is the only one home, he may get a bit nervous and softly howl or whine a bit, although not enough for neighbors to hear and not for long. He will also use a pee pad if you are gone for a longer time.

For bedtime, Rocco will sleep on a supportive or cozy dog bed, on a comfy, cool blanket, in your bed right next to you, or in a crate. He can adapt to almost anything, but he prefers the choice of a few comfortable dog beds or right next to you best. Sometimes when the alarm goes off, Rocco will roll over and nestle back in, letting you know he wants to sleep in a bit more.

The only things we are working on with Rocco is a bit of pulling on the leash when following a scent and when he wants to meet other dogs. Other than those minor items, Rocco is overall a wonderful dog.

In summary, Rocco is a good-natured dog who loves his walks, people, dogs, naps and treats. He will make a great companion for someone who works from home or a family, and if you have another dog friend for him, he might really enjoy that as well. The best thing about Rocco is that he is incredibly sweet and adaptable. Please get your application in for Rocco, because as handsome and sweet as he is, he is not going to last long.

More about this rescue

I.C.A.R.E. is an all breed, no kill dog rescue. We rescue dogs at risk of being euthanized from shelters, abandoned, abused, and stray dogs. We also rescue many owner surrendered dogs; which are dogs that can no longer remain in their current homes due to financial or personal issues. I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue is dedicated to reducing the number of dogs that are euthanized in our shelters each and everyday. We focus on rescuing and rehabilitating them in loving foster homes until they are adopted into their permanent homes. We also focus on educating the public regarding specific breeds, rescue, and general information regarding the canine species. We are a 100% volunteer run and supported organization that cannot survive without the help of loving fosters, volunteers, and benefactors.
