My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Nova was brought in by a community member on September 19, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Nova! Are you ready to embark on a soaring adventure with the one and only Nova, the most dashing domesticated pigeon in town? If you're in the mood for a chat, Nova is an excellent listener and an expert eavesdropper. Share your secrets, your hopes, or your funny anecdotes with this winged confidant, and Nova will keep them tucked away securely in their pigeon heart. With proper care, pigeons like Nova can live for 15+ years! Pigeons can form close bonds with their humans - however, they are communal and are happiest when they have pigeon companions, as well. That being said, it will be important to quarantine them before adding them to an existing flock. Pigeons do best in a large aviary-type housing with other pigeons, but if you choose to house them in a cage, they will need an extra large flight cage. You will need to offer Nova opportunities for bathing, as well as a variety of perch styles and shelves, to promote good foot health. Nova will need a high quality dove grain mix as well as grit, a calcium supplement, yummy millet sprays, greens, and minced veggies for treats. But it's not just about the food for Nova; this debonair bird has a few other talents up their feathered sleeve. With their gentle coos in the morning, they serenade the dawn, providing the perfect soundtrack to start your day. Picture yourself sipping your coffee while Nova fills the air with their melodic melodies. It's like having a personal avian DJ! Hurry up and adopt this dashing bird before someone else snatches them away! Just remember, when Nova enters your life, your heart will truly take flight! Don't forget to bring a travel carrier for a safe journey home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
