My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Courtesy post...we got the below plea from Kayla and want to share Pebbles to give him exposure outside his current area:

"I hope this message finds you well, my name is Kayla I work for Powhatan Animal Control. Below I have attached a google doc with our longest resident Pebbles. Pebbles is a black Pitbull with white markings. He is around 2 years old and weighs about 60 pounds. This lovable boy came into our shelter as a stray when he arrived, he was limping and had fly bites on his stomach and he had abrasions on his feet, he has made a full recovery since being with us. He is in desperate need of a change of scenery, he is really struggling in our shelter since he has been here for 5 almost 6 months. He is currently on trazadone to help him with his shelter anxiety which seems to help a lot. He will walk right next to you on walks and will go whatever speed you want to go. He loves car rides and pup cups. One of our volunteers has done an amazing job at teaching him commands like sit and Down, he has been great with working with him and keeping him entertained and his energy levels down. We have been trying for months to find him placement and we would be forever grateful if you could help him find his forever home and take him from us. We believe his family is out there but not necessarily here in Powhatan. Pebbles does well with other dogs he has met here at the shelter. He is neutered, microchipped, has his rabies shot, is heartworm negative, Lyme negative, and microfilaria negative. He also has his leptospirosis 4 way, Bordetella intransat, and SNAP heartworm antigen ELISA. he is all around the perfect dog. If you're able to help or have any questions, please reply to this email at klsmith@powhatanva.gov or text me at (804) 393-1433. Thank you so much for your time!"

Go meet their pets

We are a rescue that is dependent on volunteers as we do not have a physical building. We rent space at a kennel in Upperco, Md. If you would like to meet one of our dogs please contact us to make arrangements. Thanks!

More about this rescue

Adopt a Homeless Animal Rescue (AAHA) is a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and assisting animals in crisis. We actively combat animal cruelty in any form.

We have a particular commitment to pit bulls and aim to raise awareness about the breed, help those in need, and educate the public:
•We seek to promote this lovely yet unfairly maligned breed as the sweet, intelligent, affectionate, and people-oriented dogs they are.
•We assume stewardship over their well-being and strive to make this world a better place for them.
•We serve as a resource and/or liaison for shelters, individuals, and the community at large, advocating for any animal in harm's way.
•We also function in an advisory role for private citizens who seek assistance and guidance in better caring for their pets.

We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Please help us help the animals!
