My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Butch / Male / 1 year / 66 pounds / Ridgeback Mix / Laid Back and Gentle / Great Family Dog / Good with Dogs / Good with Cats / from Tennessee

Follow along with Butch’s journey at @gracies_fosters!

Meet Butch, a handsome young hunk that is as sweet as can be. He’s described by his foster family as happy, sweet, playful, dopey, snuggly, friendly – all of the best things! Butch came to us from Tennessee where he was abandoned as a puppy. They say good things come in big packages…no wait, that doesn’t sound right. Regardless, this big pup is an absolute delight and so docile for his age, suggesting he will likely stay a very mellow dude who is everyone’s best friend. He loves to chew on bones, cuddle, play with his foster siblings, and be all-around awesome. When he gets excited he’ll let you know by bumping you with his nose.

Butch gets along great with other dogs and listens attentively. He currently shares his foster home with 2 other dogs and various canine and human visitors. He will engage in play but tires quickly. He is not a high energy pup, after a play session he enjoys just hanging out or taking a snooze. He is very laid back for such a young dog. He's quiet, seldomly barks, making him an excellent companion for any type of household. Butch loves his food and is currently using a slow feed dog bowl as he tends to gobble it quickly. Butch loves to eat and lounge on the couch. Who can relate?

Since coming to Canada, Butch is learning what it's like to live in a home. He continues to be successful in housetraining when given regular opportunities to potty outdoors. Butch is by your side anywhere you go so he may whine when initially put in his crate. Within a few minutes he will fall asleep until you get home and has been crated for up to 8 hours. Butch has already gained a lot of confidence on leash and is looking forward to experiencing more of this great big world with his new family. His eagerness to please and love for attention will aid in his continued training – he is very food motivated. Butch will benefit from two walks daily plus opportunity to go to the bathroom and playtime to keep him mentally stimulated. He gets a little nervous when his foster family reaches for his leash – he’ll quickly lie down to stay chilling inside.

Butch is a social pup who has love for everyone – he has been around children, dogs and cats and enjoys soaking up any attention he can get. He would make a great addition to any family with dog-savvy kids and cats. He’s currently learning not to jump up. His friendly demeaner towards other dogs suggests he would thrive in a multi-dog home, but he would also be content as the only dog, basking in the love of his new family. Butch is such a happy guy he would do well in any size home environment.

Butch is dreaming of a family to call his own, are you the one to make his dreams a reality?

Butch tested positive for Ehrlichia which is a common tick-borne disease that stays in the bloodstream for many years. This has been treated, and moving forward regular yearly bloodwork would be recommended. Although this should not cause any issues moving forward, it's important that if Butch required surgery or a dental, pre-operative blood work (CBC+Platelet count) are completed beforehand.

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 72 hours, please remember we are a volunteer-run organization. We appreciate your patience.

If we think your application has potential to be a good fit, a Fetch + Releash volunteer will contact you to set up a time to speak over the phone and conduct the home visit. In addition to the phone interview and home visit, we also require personal, veterinarian, and landlord reference if applicable.

After the phone interview, home visit & reference check, you will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog.

After the meet and greet, the adoption committee will then review your completed application and make a final decision.

More about this rescue

Established in 2016, Fetch + Releash is a volunteer run dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs in need. Our foster dogs come from a variety of different backgrounds such as shelters, strays and surrendered pets, both locally and abroad. Through our network of volunteers, foster homes, trainers and veterinarians, we strive to give every dog the loving forever family they deserve. As a foster-based rescue, our dogs live in private homes across the Greater Toronto Area where they receive the love and attention they need to ready them for adoption.

A dog is a lifetime commitment and not to be discarded due to health, lifestyle change or inconvenience. Some of the top reasons dogs end up in shelters are lack of training, lifestyle changes (i.e. new baby, marriage), relocation, cost of dog ownership, not enough time for pet etc. Our goal is to ensure our adoptive families are well versed in the realities of dog ownership and ready to make a lifetime commitment.
