My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sosa is so happy he shows exuberance for life that is sure to make you smile. Low key people and families may not be able to keep up with this playfulness, so a family that embraces the joys of life and also has the time to play with Sosa would be the best fit for him. Sosa is a kind soul who likes everyone he meets and has LOADS of fun with toys and activities. Sosa prefers to be the only dog in the household in order to be happiest. Training would really help Sosa shine his brightest too and HSHV is ready to help you with recommendations and even training classes. Could Sosa be the one for you? Come meet him soon or call 734-662-5585 or email at adoptions@hshv.org if you have any questions

Additional adoption info

Thank you for considering adopting and saving a life! Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge you need to adopt while making the process a positive experience, so here are some things to know:

+ You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt at HSHV. We welcome all--from any county or state!

+ Prior to visiting an animal, you must complete an application. You can do this at the shelter, or save time by bringing a completed one with you by downloading it from our website at www.hshv.org/howtoadopt.

+ Some animals have special adoption requirements.

+ Adoptions are first-come, first served and holds are limited to one 24-hour hold per family.

+ Please allow at least an hour if you plan on adopting. Bring your driver's license or other government-issued ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if it applies) and vaccination records for current pets.

+ Applications are accepted up until 15 minutes prior to closing.

+ Most adoptions are same-day, you'll take home your new friend!

When our animals go home, they've received an initial health check and have been:
+ Spayed/Neutered
+ Microchipped
+ Current on vaccinations (as appropriate to their age)
+ Dewormed
+ Feline Leukemia tested (kittens and cats)
+ Heartworm tested (adult dogs)
+ Temperament tested (adult dogs)

More about this shelter

Founded in 1896, the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) is the only shelter in Washtenaw County and serves over 14,000 people and their animals every year. HSHV is classified as a no-kill shelter, has the highest "save rate" among all similar animals in Michigan, and has been recognized by the Michigan Pet Fund Alliance with the large shelter award for "Outstanding Open Admission Shelter with the Best Save Rate." Our state-of-the-art facility was rebuilt in 2009, and we depend on the generosity of people like you to continue our mission to support the loving, responsible care of every animal in our community. See more about HSHV at www.hshv.org/aboutus. Thank you for your support!
