SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Cookie is a shy but sweet little dog who recently. came to us from a breeder in North Carolina. We do not know much about her past other than her birthdate, and have a spotty vaccine record for her time prior to coming into our care. Cookie came with two other small dogs from the same person, and the three stay together and comfort one another. Like many dogs used for breeding, poor socialization is often a result of being used for something other than being a pet. Nonetheless, Cookie does allow us to handle her and has. a very gentle demeanor. She is quiet and gentle and appreciates the same from us. Cookie has been examined by our vet, given her vaccines, had heartworm and parasite testing, been spayed and microchipped and is ready for adoption.
We are seeking a home for Cookie in which she can thrive. We believe she is best suited to a quiet, predictable home with an adult at home a good bit of each day for consistent socialization. We do not feel she would be comfortable with young or active children or larger pets. Another small, well-behaved dog would likely be a good option for helping Cookie to become comfortable and learn the ropes of her new home. A fenced, secure yard for safe exercise and play is a MUST. Fully grown at just 10 pounds, she is a perfect size for many adopters.
Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Adopt a Pet inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of Cookie as well as our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with you and your family to meet Cookie at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting her and determining that she matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner.
