My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bear is an adorable 2-year old male Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 25, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found him on Robinson Hill Road in the Marietta Ohio area (near Warren). Bear was wearing a collar with his name on the collar but, unfortunately, neither his owner's name nor phone number were on his collar ... And he was not microchipped.

Bear had an injury to his right ear when he was found and had been bleeding profusely from that ear when he entered our shelter. Thanks to the Good Samaritan and our HSOV staff who quickly had the bleeding under control and stabilized his condition.

Bear was taken to one of our compassionate local veterinarians where he spent a couple of nights in their clinic. Bear's ear has been sutured, and he was also neutered while under anesthesia. When Bear returned to our shelter on August 27th, he was wearing a stylish 'head wrap' bandage instead of a 'cone' which would be more comfortable (and keep him from scratching at his stitches).

This sweet boy has a black wiry-haired coat with a teeny splash of white on his chest, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, cute scruffy whiskers, a dusting of white on his chin, and large floppy ears.

Bear has a lovable, affectionate personality and is a pushover for attention.

Bear has a slim, trim physique and currently weighs 60.4 lbs

Since we weren't able to decide upon Bear's breed, he is being listed as a Terrier mix. When you see him in person, there are some individuals who see Standard/Giant Schnauzer in his facial appearance .. And (with a little imagination) Bear also has the characteristics of an Irish Wolfhound though he is much smaller than that breed.

In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bear was posted on social media the day he arrived at HSOV, and he was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly, nobody called or came look for this magnificent boy.

These updated photos of Bear were taken on September 21, 2024 when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard accompanied him for outdoor pictures. We had taken Bear's first photos when he was still wearing his blue 'head wrap bandage' (which we admit were pretty cute) .. But we looked forward to the day when we could take pictures of his handsome face which featured his large floppy ears.

Bear has an affectionate, happy outgoing personality and loves attention. He posed like a 'pro' for Jennie and also walked well on a leash.

Bear did not appear to welcome any of our outdoor shelter mascot kitties into his circle of friends, so we aren't sure we'd trust him to be nice to feline friends.

Since Bear has been neutered, he could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV Foster- or Adoption Application.
