Nora For nearly all eight years of my life, I lived in a tiny world consisting of an elderly owner and his house. We didn't have visitors, and I never learned to be a confident, friendly kitty. Most cats enjoy or are curious about things that are unfamiliar to me. On September 6, a policeman took me from this house to the HSHC. Can you imagine my confusion and anxiety when faced with so many strangers, other cats, and new surroundings? It was mind-boggling. For a while, I lived in a two-room apartment and got used to being fed there, using my litterbox, and hiding in my Kitty Kasa. Then, on October 10, I moved into a Roaming Room with several other cats. It gave me a chance to watch them and learn the routine. Then, the interviewer lady (IL) would come into the room to talk with the cats. I hid in my Kasa and watched her. I stepped out of my hiding place one day, and another cat snuck inside! Oh no! I hid behind it until that cat left and rushed back into its cozy darkness. Yesterday, I let the IL approach my Kasa and didn't react. She was quiet and slow in her movements, and I sniffed her hand. In spite of myself, I let her pet me, even rolling to my side to allow her more area to touch. I think this means I have a future to look forward to. I need a patient, loving person to show me a whole new world. Could that be you? 10-22-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
